An original, antique, copper-plate engraved map of Yorkshire, by John Speed and published by Sudbury & Humble in c. The quite detailed map was published as part of Speed's most famous work'The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine'. The map is printed on hand-laid paper with a watermark, and it is nicely hand coloured. The printed area measures approximately 510mm x 385mm with margins beyond.Condition report: Very good overall condition. Light toning as is common, perhaps slightly darker in the margins. Centrefold as published, the bottom half of which is strengthened on the reverse. 1cm marginal closed tear at the top of the centrefold.
Slight signs of wear along the bottom half of the centrefold (see photograph for detail). Minor diagonal crease at the base of the sheet to the right of the centrefold. A few very minor nicks to the left edge of the sheet.
