Large-format original antique engraved map of Southeast Asia, with decorative title cartouche, published in Amsterdam by Frederik de Wit, more than 350 years ago. The map is titled Tabula Indiae Orientalis. The image area measures a generous 45.8 x 56.6 cm [18" x 22¼"], with generous margins on all sides. The coverage area extends from India to southern China, Taiwan, and the Philippines, with northwest Australia labeled Hollandia Nova.

It includes present-day Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Pakistan, Burma, Ceylon, the Maldives, the Moluccas, and the southern coast of Iran. The map was engraved by Joannes Lhulier and is dated 1662 in the lower corner.

It is in excellent condition, bright and clean, with a vertical center fold, as issued, and no marks, rips, or tears. It is printed on a heavy paper and is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.

It is an original , authentic antique map, not a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be genuine. It was published in De Wits world atlas, Atlas sive description Terrarum Orbis circa 1670, a time of busy activity in the region by the Dutch East India Company, particularly trade with the Spice Islands, and the map gives special attention to the many islands and major ports. The artwork surrounding the title cartouche shows turbaned warriors and native figures. Frederick De Wit, an apprentice of William Blaeu, founded his own printing house in Amsterdam in 1648 and became one of the most prominent and successful map engravers and publishers in the city following the decline of the Blaeu and Jansson establishments.
