Important 17th century map illustrating the conflict between French and English claims to the Carolina, Georgia, Florida seaboard. The map covers an area from the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay to Georgia and reflects the competing interests of France and England in the New World, with the coat of arms of each country identifying the regional control.
Includes the marvelous mythical lakes in the interior and other conjectural cartography of the time. Large cartouche, 2 coasts of arms, 2 compass roses and several sailing ships. Cartographer: Willem Janszoon Blaeu (1571 1638).
Leaf size: 55,0 x 43,8 cm. Split on top centerfold restored. Brownish heavy paper and contemporary hand coloring with golden accents.
