A very rare recreation of the Temple in Jerusalem by one of the 17th century's most skilful and prolific artists and etchers. Double-page bird's-eye etched view, title within decorative strapwork cartouche, the whole plate and within cartouche with double-ruled borders in red ink, the plate with numbers referring to a key below title. This fantastic view of the Temple in Jerusalem, imagined before its destruction, presents the Temple as though it were an imagined a Renaissance-style palace. Built on an enormous masonry base, the huge neo-classical building is surrounded by colonnades, and connected at its sides to the surrounding city by arched bridges over steep ravines.
The city buildings themselves have an architectural air of 17th-century London. Measures: 39,8 x 52,5 cm.
Nice dark impression on stable paper. Little margin at bottom right. All of the maps we sell are Originals, Authentic and in Good condition. Please ask me for any question or photos.
